The town of Donji Miholjac, together with the project partners of the City of Siklos and the Tourist Board of the City of Donji Miholjac, was selected for the implementation of the BicYcle PATH project that connects the Mailath castle and the Siklos fortress. The project is being implemented from 1 September 2017 to 31 December 2018.
On July 10, 2017, a partnership agreement was signed between the town of Donji Miholjac, the town of Siklosa and the Tourist Board of the town of Donji Miholjac. On March 6, 2017 a list of selected projects from INTERREG HU HR was published.
The project was announced on 31 May 2016 in cooperation with partners. The project was submitted under the Interreg V-A Hungary-Croatia 2014 – 2020 Cooperation Program.
The main project activities on the Croatian side are the construction of a bicycle path in Donji Miholjac in Ljudevita Gaja Street and along the state road D53 to the border with the Republic of Hungary and equipping the tracks with various amenities, bike guide training, bicycle purchase and maintenance of the Cycle Art festival.
On the Hungarian side, the main activity is the reconstruction of the bicycle path between the town of Harkany and Siklos and the bicycle park in Siklos, where other project activities will be carried out.
The total value of the submitted project, which will last 16 months, is 958,182.59 euros. EU co-financing for Croatian partners is 85%, and for Hungary 100%.
Completing the extensive documentation and applying for a project proposal for the competition was carried out by the employees of the Miholjačko Entrepreneurial Center in cooperation with all project partners.
The aim of the project is to connect the two towns, ie the Mailath castle and the park in Donji Miholjac and the fortress in the city of Siklos, and to promote and revitalize the natural and cultural heritage and develop tourism on both sides of the Drava river.
